The 7th grade Kent City Eagles had a close call tonight against Morley Stanwood. The game started out just like every other game the Eagles have played this season, with steals and fast break layups.
Then in the second quarter the Mohawks switched up their defense to a zone and threw Kent City for a loop. Morley Stanwood was now making it hard for the Eagles to get into the paint, where they do most of their scoring.
Going into half-time the game was tied 20 to 20. Kent City was struggling to make their layups, but managed to stay in the game with their intense defense and fast pasted game. They were down one point going into the final quarter of the game.
Finally the 7th grade team was able to use their press defense to finish out the game. The Eagles managed to force multiple turnovers giving them a 6 point lead with half the fourth quarter to go. The Mohawks had no choice but send Kent City to the line to stop the clock. Irelyn Sullivan, Denyle Bonter, and Maddie Geers hit some big free-throws allowing Kent City to keep their lead at the end of the game. The Eagles finished the game with a score of 40 to 34.
Maddie Geers lead the Eagles with 31 points.
