It was a tough day for Kent City’s 7th grade basketball team, suffering their first loss of the season. The Eagles played Chippewa Hills in the first game losing 50-15. Though the score wasn’t the way we wanted it to be, there were a lot of positives to take from the game. The Warriors used their size and basketball skills to jump out to an early lead in the first quarter, 20-4. Kent City would continue to struggle on the offensive end not scoring in the second. Frustrated and determined to have a better second half, the Eagles wouldn’t quit. Kent City played much better defense in the third quarter only giving up 4 points and scoring 5 points to make it 42-9. Defense carried over to the fourth as they would give up 8 ending the game 50-15. The Eagles learned from the first half from mistakes and were able to play a much better second half.
In the second game Kent City came up short again, losing to White Cloud 36-41. It was a back and forth game with several lead changes. Kent City was able to get a lot of good looks at the basket as they ran their offense well, but the shots were not falling. Kent City had the lead at half time 23-21. White Cloud would keep the game close as they took the lead in the fourth quarter and never looked back. Kent City had chances in the end to take back the lead but came up short. We look forward to bouncing back next week as we travel to Lakeview for a 10:00 a.m. start against Chippewa Hills B Team and then the host Wildcats at 11:15 a.m. The games will be played in the Elementary gymnasium.
