Kent City’s 7th grade basketball team lost to two tough teams Saturday morning. In the first game against Newaygo, the Eagles showed improvements playing good help man-to-man defense and improving on the offensive end as well. At the end of the first, Newaygo got out in front 12-4. In the second quarter, the Eagles continued to show up defensively holding Newaygo to just 8 points. Everyone on the team played well bringing our best half of basketball all year. Newaygo led at the half 20-9. Coming out of half time, Newaygo started hitting their shots and playing good defense holding the Eagles to 4 points to their 14. However the Eagles wouldn’t stop there as they played well in the fourth quarter matching Newaygo 9-9. Leading the Eagles in scoring was Arin Sarres with 10 points. Others scoring were Zach DeVoogd with 5 and Ryan Darling, Caden hartzell, and Tyler Bloom had 2. Kage Atwood added in 1 with a free throw.

In the second game the Eagles continued to show good defense against a solid Big Rapids team. The Eagles ran through their offense, getting good shots and scoring 11 points in the first. The score was tied 11-11. Big rapids came out in the second quarter playing good man-to-man defense holding us to just 2 points to their 11. Big Rapids led 13-22 at the half. After halftime, the Eagles outscored Big Rapids 10-9 playing another good quarter of basketball. In the fourth, Big Rapids pressed and raddled the Eagles to bring the final score 45-24. Scoring for the Eagles were Arin Sarres, Jaren Vogel, Tyler Bloom, and Cory Pecynski with 4 points. Zach DeVoogd had 3, Mason Crane with 2 and Kage Atwood with 1.

As we continue build our offense and play better help side defense, we are going to continue to work on boxing out and communicating on defense. On offense we need to continue to work through the plays and shooting form. The Eagles will be taking on Morley at home Monday night.
