The Kent City varsity football team traveled to Lakeview High School for their final CSAA game of the season. The Eagles were focused on winning the league championship for the fourth time in the last five seasons. A total team effort helped the Eagles to a 50 to 7 victory over the Wildcats.
One theme through the first five games of the 2020 season has been a stingy defense. The Kent City defensive squad held Lakeview’s option attack to 70 total yards on the night. One highlight on the defensive side of the ball came from sophomore safety Kyler Larson. Larson intercepted a pass in the third quarter and returned it 61 yards for a touchdown. Sophomore linebacker Mason Westbrook led the team in tackles. He finished with six solo tackles, two tackles for loss, and one fumble recovery. Sophomore linebacker Webb Longcore recorded three tackles for loss and one interception. Senior Lane Dailey finished the night with 5 tackles, 3 for loss, and one fumble recovery. The game plan by defensive coordinator Coach Gropp, and the entire defensive staff, put the Wildcats in third and long situations all night.
On the offensive side of the ball the Eagles finished with 342 yards of total yards. Running back Mason Westbrook led the team with 86 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries. Running back Webb Longcore rushed for 67 yards and one touchdown on eight carries. Quarterback Kyler Larson rushed for 66 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries. Junior Carter Milanowski rushed for a 52 yard touchdown to cap off the night for the Eagles in the 4th quarter.
The Eagles travel to Muskegon Orchard View on Friday October 23rd. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
