The Kent City Eagles had their 5th game of the season last night, welcoming the Belding Black Knights to Ward Memorial Field. The Eagles elected to receive in the first half and struggled offensively out of the gate, forcing a punt on their opening drive. The Black Knights wasted no time finding the end-zone, scoring on their first offensive play. Belding added the 2 point conversion, taking an early 8-0 lead.
The Kent City Eagles got the ball back for another possession on offense. They had some momentum going after completing a 4th and 1 on their own 35 yard line. Two plays later, a Black Knights cornerback stepped in front of an Eagle receiver and returned the interception for a touchdown, making the score 16-0.
On their next possession, Kent City was forced to punt again after a three and out. The Black Knights took advantage, scoring quickly to make the score 22-0. Kent City continued to battle, but did not have enough to overcome Belding’s offensive and defensive attack. At times Kent City made plays offensively, mainly through the air, and were able to stop the Black Knight’s rushing attack. It was not enough as Belding added two more scores before the half, making the score 36-0 at the intermission.
Coming out of halftime, it was the same old story. The Black Knights marched down the field and scored again. The Kent City Eagles had trouble stopping the Black Knights offense all night. This time they took almost 5 minutes off the clock. The score was 44-0. On their next possession the Eagles showed some promise. They moved the ball all the way down to the Belding 5 yard line before turning it over on downs on 4th and 5. The Black Knights would add one last touchdown, making the final Belding 52- Kent City 0.
The Kent City Eagles will play their final game next week at home against Orchard View on Saturday, October 24 at 11:00 a.m.
