Multiple Teams · Committed to Excellence — Connecting with Savannah Miller

Today we are going to check in with freshman Savannah Miller.   Miller is a three sport athlete for Kent City, playing volleyball, basketball, and softball.   During her freshman year, Miller starred on the freshman volleyball team in the fall.  Over the winter, Miller joined the junior varsity basketball team.   This spring, Miller was looking forward to playing high school softball for the junior varsity squad.   Despite the cancellation of the season Miller has been hard at work, preparing for her sophomore year.

1. How have you kept yourself busy?
I have kept myself busy by doing my homework, my mom and I painted the entire interior of our house. I also have been practicing basketball with my sisters.

2. What do your at home workouts look like?
For my at home workouts I have been using the PLT4M workouts and I have also been doing the basketball drills that we have set up as a team. I have also been practicing my softball skills in the batting cage that we have in my backyard.
3. What do you miss most about school?  Why?
The thing that I have missed the most about school is being able to interact with my friends. I also miss going into Mr. DeGraaf’s classroom and bothering him on occasion.
4. What book are you reading?   Would you recommend it to a friend?  Why or Why not?
Other than the assigned Tuesdays With Morrie, I have been reading Five Feet Apart. I would recommend this book to someone because it has some plot twists and it has a movie that goes with it.
5. Who in Kent City has made a positive impact on your life?   What have they done for you?
Someone in Kent City that made a positive impact on my life is Scott Carlson. He has taught me that you have to work hard for something if you want it and to always have good sportsmanship. He has been helping me grow as a basketball player and as a person for a long time and I appreciate him always pushing me to be a better me.

6. What is something you will never forget about the 2019-20 basketball seasons and what were you looking forward to in softball?
Something that I will never forget about the 2019-2020 basketball season is our game against White Cloud. We were down by quite a few points at half time but I remember Aleah pulling us in, boosting our confidence, and believing in us and that gave us the determination to win the game and do what we do best. We went back out to play using all the skills and techniques that we have been taught over the years and we worked together to get me open for a 3 to tie the game. We pulled through with the win and grew as better teammates and players.  Something that I was looking forward to in softball was expanding my skills of being a catcher.

We are encouraging all student-athletes to remain active during this time of social distancing due to the coronavirus.   A valuable resources for all Kent City students is our online strength and conditioning program, PLT4M.   PLT4M has created a Remote Fitness workout that can be done at home without any equipment.   Many of our student-athletes are already on PLT4M and simply need to log in.  If you are not on PLT4M, here is a link you can use for more information: PLTM Workouts 5-3 — 5-9.    Other questions can be directed to Coach Gropp at zach.gropp@kentcityschools.org and he will get you up and running — literally.
