For junior Kenzie Bowers, it was not a matter of if, instead, it was a matter of when? That question was answered recently as the two time all-state guard verbally committed to division I, Illinois State University. Located in Normal Illinois, the oldest public university in Illinois (1857) is 137 miles southwest of Chicago and 164 miles northeast of St. Louis. Best known as a “teacher college”, Illinois State also features one of the nation’s top business schools. Bowers is unsure as to what she will pursue when she arrives on campus in 2021, but business management is a career she is considering.
Bowers certainly has plenty of time to make a decision with nearly two years left here at Kent City. The Red Birds play in the Missouri Valley Conference which includes Indiana State, Valparaiso, Loyola, Drake, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, Evansville, and Bradley. In fact, the team plays their first game of the 2019-2020 tonight (Tuesday) against Truman. To see more information regarding the the Illinois State Women’s basketball squad, use the following link:
Kent City starts official practice in a little less than a week (Monday, November 11) and Bowers is back for her third season on the varsity squad. During her freshman season, the Eagles advanced to the MHSAA Quarterfinals where they fell to Pewamo Westphalia. Then last year, Kent City lost to the Pirates again, this time in the Regional round. Bowers and company will be ready to make another run this season when they travel to Comstock Park on Tuesday, December 3 for their opening game.
Scott DeCamp from MLive and Tim Reedsnyder from Michigan Girls Sports Report also wrote about Bowers’s decision to attend Illinois State University. To read their articles, use the following links:
