Eagles News · Warm Weather Could Not Stop 7 on 7 Tournament

The third annual Grand Rapids Home for Veterans 7 on 7 tournament took place on Friday July 19th. The Kent City football program welcomed 19 other high schools to this year’s event. All 20 schools in attendance were looking for summer competition, another opportunity to improve our football skills, and most importantly raise money for the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.

Even though we faced high temperatures all day long, it is safe to say that all three of our goals were accomplished! At the end of the night Oakridge defeated Ludington in overtime to claim the championship. All schools competed at a high level throughout the night. Just like the temperature on July 19th, our fundraising efforts were very high. After all profits were counted this year’s tournament raised $5,123 for the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans!
This tournament would not have been possible without the hard work of many people. Thank you to ChoiceOne Bank for being our title sponsor. Thank you to all the parents who donated items or volunteered their time to work at the event. Thank you to Chris and Jerri Coates and Julie Petruska for making sure the concession stand ran smoothly. Thank you to Kent City Sports Boosters for donating items. Thank you to our student-athletes for working hard through the high temperatures.
As we continue to teacher our student-athletes the importance of serving others we are grateful for the opportunity to work with the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
