On Saturday, the varsity basketball team will travel to Okemos to play in the LBI Start to March showcase event at Okemos High School. Kent City will kick-off the slate of six games featuring some of the best teams and players from across Michigan at 11:00 a.m. when they take on Detroit Martin Luther King. The Crusaders, are a division 1 school coming off a 17-4 season in 2017-2018, including a trip to the MHSAA Quarterfinals. Admission to the game will be $10 for adults and $5 for students. One ticket is good for the entire day’s action which includes the following games:
11:00 a.m. Kent City vs. Detroit King
12:45 p.m. Lansing Waverly vs. Forest Hills Northern
2:30 p.m. Detroit Edison (Black) vs. Holt
4:15 p.m. Ann Arbor Pioneer vs. Haslett
6:00 p.m. Detroit Edison vs. Fowlerville
7:45 p.m. Hartland vs. Okemos
Other teams of note include Hartland, who also advanced to the MHSAA Quarterfinals in Division 1; Fowlerville, who played in the Regional finals in Division 2; and Detroit Edison, the defending state champions in Division 3. Several of the state’s top players will also take the court, including two from the host school Okemos in Layla Hartman (Committed to Northwestern) and Jasmine Clerkley (Committed to Michigan State but recently withdrew her commitment). Detroit Edison’s Rickea Jackson (Committed to Mississippi State) will also be in action. Those are the other three players featured in the picture along with our own Kenzie Bowers.
