The Kent City Eagles began the season with a home victory against Coopersville Tuesday night as they held on to win 48-46. The Eagles trailed early, but rallied to take a four point lead at the end of the first quarter. Kent City extended the lead to five points in the second quarter and led 26-21 at halftime.
Kent City led by as many as nine points in the third quarter and ten in the fourth quarter, but the Broncos continued to fight back and cut the lead to just one point before a free throw and offensive rebounds preserved the victory of the Eagles.
Senior Zara Weber scored 17 points to lead the way for Kent City, while Jenna Harrison, 15, and Kenzie Bowers, 11, also finished in double figures. Audrey Dreyer added four points, and Lauren Freeland had one. The Eagles return to action on Friday when they open up conference play against White Cloud. Game time at the Nest is 6:00 p.m.
