The Kent City Girls JV team started the year out with a bang defeating Coopersville 56 to 16. The Eagles came out strong in the first quarter knowing that last year the Broncos had beat them by double digits. Kent City struggled to finish their shots the first few minutes of the game, but after the nerves subsided the Eagles started to play their game. The full court press lead to a couple quick baskets for Kent City giving them an early lead and finishing the first quarter 11 to 5.
The Eagles continued to push the tempo for the entirety of the game which lead to many easy baskets. Once Coopersville adjusted to the pressure and high speed of the game they started guarding the paint. The Eagles were prepared for this and started kicking the ball out for wide open shots. Alyssa Larson hit 4 3 pointers in the 3rd quarter giving Kent City an even bigger lead. The Eagles finished the half with 7 made 3 point shots as a team.
Leading scorer on the night was Alyssa Larson with 22 points. Kaila Krueger and Taryn Preston added in 9 and Kaylyn Wilson followed closely behind with 8. The JV’s next game will be Thursday December 6 at White Cloud.
