KCMS Soccer traveled south to challenge the North Pointe Christian Mustangs in Monday soccer action. The Eagles were looking for their first victory of this young season. The Eagles controlled action throughout the contest, but goals were hard to come by verses the speedy Mustang defense. The KC side would have to up their creativity to find the net and so they did. With thirteen minutes left in the first. Jaret Jaramillo played a corner short to Alfredo Bolanos. His cross to the far post found Carlos Gomez who headed it home.
Gomez was instrumental in the Eagles second goal as well. His hard drive into the box in the closing seconds of the first half ended with . . . a penalty on a Mustang defender. Santi Gomez stepped up for the PK after time expired. His kick went high and left and past the keeper for a 2-0 halftime lead.
In the second, Junior Benavides made a long run up the right wing. From a wide angle his rocket lifted over the keeper and into the far side of the net, a beautiful goal.
While the goals were beautiful, the player of the game was Alfredo Bolanos who controlled the back line of the Eagle defense and initiated many attacks into the offensive half. He and his defensive teammates, Dylan Schutt, Gio Sanchez, and Seth Vanderwest limited the pressure on the Eagle keepers and were key to the shut out.
The Eagle’s will play their first home game this Wednesday against Wyoming Lee.
