Reeths Puffer High School hosted the West Michigan All-Star Meet last night and conditions were near perfect for fast times. In the first track event of the night, Lauren Freeland grabbed the baton in fifth place in the 3200-meter relay. During her two laps she caught every competitor and anchored the team of Layla Martini, Abby Ignasiak, and Elizabeth Sible to a new school record of 9:55.08 and first place.
Freeland wasn’t done. In the 800, she also lowered her own school record and finished 2nd in a photo finish. Additionally, she finished 6th in the long jump. Martini decided one medal wasn’t enough. She earned a bronze as she shattered her PR in the two mile run by 18 seconds and set a new school record of 11:20.7! Similarly, Sondra McCulloch crushed her best time and came away with the 5th place medal in the 300 hurdles.
Others invited to compete were Carley Denhof in the 200, Zara Weber in the 100 hurdles and high jump, Kenzie Bowers in the high jump and long jump, McKenna Dombrowski in the pole vault, and Abby Ignasiak in the 3200. The 400-meter relay team of Jasmine Weeks, Weber, Denhof, and Teanna McCuaig also competed for 8th. Congratulations!
