Girls Middle School Soccer · Middle School Girls Soccer Starts the Season Strong

This past week, the Kent City Middle School Girls soccer started the season out strong, taking home two wins – one against Kelloggsville on Tuesday and another against Wyoming Junior High Blue.

Upon arriving to the first away game of the season in Kelloggsville on Tuesday the 10th, we were informed that there was no official for the game. A decision was made to scrimmage 20 minute halves with coaches on the field acting as referees. This didn’t crush the girls’ spirits. They demanded the field, scoring the first two goals in the first half. Seventh grader Izabella Arechiga fed the ball up the field to sixth grader Maddie Geers who delivered a beautiful corner shot past the keeper. Maddie later returned the favor to Izabella, assisting her in her goal before the end of the first half. Not 4 minutes into the second half, eighth grader Emily Lantzer received the ball off a goal kick and scored again, bringing our Eagles 3 – 0. After multiple save made by goalie Claire Snyder, Kelloggsville forwards got one by her. Final score of the game was 3 -1, a very exciting win against a talented team.

Following the big win against Kelloggsville, the Eagles geared up for their first home game against Wyoming. The girls played the first half very offensively, rarely allowing the ball to cross the midfield into their territory. Great shots on goal were made by eighth grader Natalie Snyder and Emmalyn Geers, as well as seventh grader Izabella Arechiga. As the second half progressed, the girls got more aggressive, itching for a goal. Eighth grade sweeper Alexis Fuller and stoppers Abby Kozal and Jessy Stream held the fort down in defense, keeping the ball away from the goal. With 15 minutes left, Emily Lanzter broke away from the defense, dribbling the ball up the field before crossing it over to Maddie Geers who shot the ball in the lower left corner, sneaking it right past the goalie. The girls walked away with another win, 1 – 0. Goalie Claire Snyder played hard, blocking 8 shots on goal throughout the game.

Come support your Kent City Eagles as the girls play next week Tuesday, April 17th at Hopkins Middle School at 4:30pm. Go Eagles!
