Multiple Teams · Varsity Volleyball finishes 4th in Dig Pink Invitational

On Saturday, October 7th the volleyball program hosted their Dig Pink Invitational with 9 teams participating.  This is the 8th year that we have played in an event raising money for the Side-Out Foundation.  This years event was another successful tournament.  This day is about so much more than winning the game of volleyball.  Each player participating on Saturday dedicated their play to someone who has fought this disease, is currently fighting or to someone who lost their battle with this horrible disease.  It was a great sight to see all the pink that the fans and teams were wearing to help us in this great cause.  A big thank you to all the teams and fans that participated in this event and purchased our dig pink apparel, it is very much appreciated.  Thank you to all the Freshman and JV volleyball players that helped work the event all day to make it run smoothly.  You all did a great job and the coaching staff appreciates your hard work and dedication.

The Lady Eagles would open up the morning against Grand Rapids Union in pool play.  The first set started out a little slow, but the Eagles would step it up and take control and win the first set by a score of 25-9.  The second set against them would start right where they left off in the first set and they would come away with the victory 25-11.

Their next opponent in pool play would be the Kelloggsville Rockets.  The Eagles would start out very strong in this match and take the first one by a score of 25-6.  In the second set the Rockets would fight a little harder, but the eagles would once again come out on top and defeat them 25-18.

The Lady Eagles would end up being the number one seed overall to start out bracket play.  They would end of facing off against Muskegon Oakridge who defeated Godwin Heights in the bracket play.  Oakridge would come out strong and the Eagles were a little slow from sitting out.  Oakridge would take the first set from the Eagles 25-11.  The Eagles would fight and play much better in the second set, but Oakridge would end up pulling out the victory 25-22.

The Eagles would then face off against Big Rapids to determine third and fourth place.  Big Rapids had a great height advantage over the eagles, but that didn’t stop them from fighting hard and not giving up.  Big Rapids would end up winning the match 25-17 and 25-19.  This would have the Eagles finishing in 4th place on the day.

Great job ladies on remembering what the day was all about and for all your hard working leading up to the tournament.

Your Lady Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday against Lakeview in a “Pink Out”.  The JV game will start at 5:30 with the Varsity starting approximately 20 minutes after the completion of that match.  These hard working ladies could really use the support and would love to see a big crowd there to cheer them on wearing their pink.  We still have some t-shirts available to purchase for $10.  Wearing this years dig pink apparel will grant you free admission to the game on Tuesday night.  We hope to see you all there.
